Pre-Vets Are Doing Swine

Pre-Vets Are Doing Swine

How many students does it take to artificially inseminate two sows? Fourteen pre-vet students participated in a workshop on artificial insemination with professors Birendra Mishra and Halina Zaleski (Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Science) on March 25. Students learned how to identify estrus and practiced inseminating techniques. In addition, they had the opportunity to care for a litter of nine piglets. Commercial swine producers Wayne and Bobby Shimokawa generously allowed the use of their farm and sows for the workshop. Here Threnody Brown Earley-Clark, Lana Lacroix, and Cody Ching take their turns.
