Malama ‘Ulu

Natural Resources and Environmental Management grad student Blaire Langston is holding a workshop on Saturday, February 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in St. John 106 on how to participate in the ‘Ulu Phenology Project. Please be prepared to walk outside. This project is working to collect data on the phenology, or fruiting and flowering timing related to climatic conditions, of breadfruit across the state of Hawai‘i. The Project leaders hope to use this valuable information to support local breadfruit farmers with management and fruit production. They are looking for volunteers and are also offering a paid research position for students currently enrolled in the UH system. If you are interested in supporting local food systems and sustainable agriculture, come learn how to contribute as a citizen scientist. Participants must be able to make bi-weekly observations that take about ten minutes for about 1 year.
