Adapting Ag

Farmers have always had to be adaptable, thanks to the many unknowns and unexpected events that mark the career of a grower or rancher. Now, with the climate in a state of flux, adaptation is more important than ever before.

This is the theme of the Hawai‘i Agriculture Conference 2019—AGdaptation: Hawai‘i’s Growing Opportunity. Sponsored by the Hawai‘i Department of Agriculture, the Agricultural Leadership Foundation of Hawai‘i, and Island Fresh Buy Local—It Matters, it will include speakers such as cattle rancher Michelle Galimba, economic development and land-use specialist Ed McMahon, and New Zealand Tourism Board chair Jamie Tuuta. CTAHR will be a sponsor, and plenty of the college’s faculty and students will exhibit or give presentations. The conference will also feature a Grower Buyer Meetup, at which farmers and producers can talk and share their products with potential buyers.
