Club participants give back to the community by making masks

4-H: Focus on Health

Community support from volunteer club leaders and engaged parents is key to the survival of our Hawai‘i 4-H program. In return, during the COVID-19 pandemic, East Hawai‘i 4-H members from the Super Stars 4-H Club and Hawai‘i Island 4-H Shooting Sports Club are making the best of shelter-in-place orders by sewing face masks for community members who need them.

To date, the kids have made more than 300 masks and donated them to the North Hawai‘i Medical Center, Hilo Medical Center, Life Care Center of Hilo, Maika‘i Veterinary Clinic, Kaumana Fire Department, and wherever health care workers need them. They’ve also donated masks to county agents and staff of CTAHR’s Komohana Research & Extension Center in Hilo.

Mahalo to these energetic and community-minded 4-H members for their generosity, and mahalo to the 4-H program for fostering a spirit of endeavor and giving!

To donate ¼” elastic, thread, or fabric, please contact the 4-H office at (808) 969-8213 or at #InspireKidsToDo #Hawaii4H.
