Many may not know it, but CTAHR hosts an important potential collaborator and ally right in Gilmore Hall: the Center for Tropical and Subtropical Aquaculture! CTSA is one of five regional aquaculture centers in the United States established by the USDA, which integrate individual and institutional expertise and resources in support of commercial aquaculture development.
The Sustainable and Organic Agriculture Program is looking for an academic support – educational specialist to be housed in TPSS. The successful hire will assist SOAP in providing statewide management of the program, including applied research, outreach, and evaluation of sustainable & organic farming systems.
If you’re interested in finding out more about and preserving the ahupua‘a system, Hawai‘i’s unique form of land-use from mauka to makai, check out these one-year fellowships in ahupua‘a management for UH students. Beginning in Summer 2019, students will join a diverse team of UH faculty, natural resource professionals, and cultural and community groups engaged in restoring several Hawaiian ahupua‘a.
Students interested in science, the ocean, and outreach may want to look into Our Project in Hawaii’s Intertidal (OPIHI). This program, which provides marine intertidal research experience for undergraduates, is recruiting for a year-long internship program (Fall 2019–Spring 2020). Submit applications by April 1.
