Environment of Learning

MS alumna Silvia Gianetti Barber is featured in UH Foundation’s ‘Āina initiative with an engaging interview and photographs. Silvia works as a scientist doing environmental assessment, focusing on agriculture, property transactions, and litigation support. She credits CTAHR’s master’s program with teaching her critical thinking and research skills so that she can substantiate scientific claims instead of just believing anecdotal evidence that sounds convincing. Similarly, she cautions that in considering environmental impact, it’s necessary to evaluate each particular situation rather than going with what might appear to be the most popular or likely solution. Silvia fondly remembers her office in Sherman and her classes and interactions with students and professors; she says if she had to describe the university in one word, that word would be “fun.”
