HFNA films Wedding Celebration video at Magoon

Grown with Aloha

Every year, the Hawaiʻi Flower and Nursery Association (HFNA) hosts “Wedding Celebrations,” a workshop dedicated to the exquisite work of Hawaiʻi floriculturists. This year, several CTAHR floriculture experts contributed their expertise by sharing their research and knowledge in tropical flowers and foliage with the floriculture community.

Floriculture extension agents Russell Galanti (Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi Island), Hannah Lutgen (Maui), and James Keach (Kauaʻi) filmed nursery tours and floral design presentations of the lush foliage on their islands. Orville Baldos and Tessie Amore discussed the initiatives and research taking place at the Magoon greenhouses, sharing images of the vibrant tropical flower variants developed in recent years. Horticulturist Richard Criley’s featured plumeria research at the Waimanalo Research Station including the many plumeria variants blossoming in the garden.

Glenn Sako, CTAHR alumnus and Hawaiʻi County economic development specialist in agriculture, hosted “Breeders and Growers,” in which panelists answered audience questions and shared their knowledge in tropical floristry and design.
