2020 Dean’s Award for Ka Pouhana mentorship

Kacie Ho

The Ka Pouhana award recognizes a CTAHR faculty member for outstanding support of student learning and development through co-curricular activities.

Kacie Ho’s student nominators describe her as inspiring, service-oriented, and supportive. She nurtures her students while challenging them to think critically about their work, and she promotes community engagement through recruitment and outreach activities.

Kacie, an assistant professor in food science, currently mentors five undergraduates, two graduate students, and a high school student in research projects. As one of her students says, “She possesses the character and ambition to bring our college to new heights, all the while giving her time to help her students transcend to greater success.”

Dean Nicholas Comerford notes, “There is no greater compliment from a student to a teacher than ‘You are inspiring.’ That is how Kacie is described. In a relatively short time, she has made an impact on the Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences by her mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students. We are excited about what the future holds for her and her students.”
