Breakfast of (Science) Champions

Women of science unite! While eating waffles. In honor of their 100th anniversary, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry is working with the American Chemical Society to sponsor a Global Women’s Breakfast, entitled “Empowering Women in Chemistry: A Global Networking Event.” This event will feature a breakfast in each time zone around the world, with Hawai‘i representing the final time zone of the day. Come join the conversation on how to empower women in science! It’s free, and all are welcome.

  • Date: February 12
  • Time: 8:30–10:30 a.m.
  • Location: Campus Center, Executive Dining Room
  • Registration: Sign up at Eventbrite.

During breakfast, participants will hear talks from Ellinor Haglund, PhD, a new chemistry professor at UH, and Margaret McFall-Ngai, PhD, the director of the Pacific Basin Research Center and member of the National Academy of Sciences. The second half of the breakfast will be dedicated to networking and discussing challenges facing women in science and how to deal with them now and for future generations.

For more information on the event, visit IUPAC100 Global Breakfast or follow the organization on Twitter: @globalUHM. Please contact MBBE postdoc Margaret Baker at mruzicka@hawaii.edu if there are any questions, and distribute this information to all who may be interested.
