Abstract submissions are now open for the 44th Annual Albert L. Tester Memorial Symposium,an annual symposium organized by and for students and hosted by the Department of Biology to showcase life sciences research at UH. The format features 5-minute rapid-fire talks, 12-minute oral presentations, and a poster session. It will also incorporate other events, including lunch-time workshops. CTAHR students like Roberto Rodriguez (pictured) have won awards in previous Tester Symposia.

This year’s symposium theme is “Molecules to Megafauna.” Dr. Kristy Kroeker of UC Santa Cruz will be the keynote speaker. She is an associate professor in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, a Packard Fellow in Science and Engineering, and a Sloan Fellow in Ocean Sciences. Research in her lab focuses on global change ecology and scaling up from individuals to ecosystems to study the emergent effects of environment change. Learn more about her work here.

The goals of the Tester Symposium are to increase participation across a broad range of scientific disciplines and campus departments and to encourage undergraduate participation throughout all events of the symposium. The event is made possible by the efforts of undergraduate and graduate student volunteers who assist with events and planning before and during the symposium. If you want to volunteer to help with this year’s symposium, please fill out this form.
