Outstanding Scholars
Congratulations to TPSS students Giselle Bryant and Judy Cacal, who were honored by the American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS)! Giselle is a winner of an ASHS Collegiate Scholars Award, and Judy is the winner of both an Outstanding Horticulture Student Award and an ASHS Collegiate Scholars Award. Giselle, who is focusing on plant biology and tropical agriculture, is a UH Presidential Scholar; serves as technician and editor for Hanai ‘Ai, the newsletter of the Sustainable and Organic Agriculture Program (SOAP); and has worked as a land steward for the Kahuna Valley Farm.
Judy, who just graduated with a focus on plant production, worked as a lab assistant in Tessie Amore’s anthurium and orchid breeding program, micropropagating anthurium selections for germplasm maintenance and field testing as well as cultivar release. She is also active in the Horticulture Society and in volunteer work for her department, college, and UH, including helping with Gene-ius Day.
