Speed Networking
The ASAO recently hosted its second CTAHR Student–Faculty luncheon, where freshmen and transfer students from ANSC, BE, FSHN, HDFS, NREM, MBB, FDM, and BE had the opportunity to meet and chat with faculty from nearly all these majors, along with the dean and associate deans. The luncheon started off with a speed networking session, in which the faculty and deans spent five minutes introducing themselves to small groups of students for four rounds. Pictured, clockwise from top, are Ryan Kurasaki (BE), Lori Yancura (HDFS), Nick Therrien (student, MBB), Interim Associate Dean of Research Jinzeng Yang, and Aaron Kam (student, BE). Then, during lunch, students shared their ideas about the kinds of events that are most appealing to them. The students agreed that they appreciate having events like these but that they would also prefer to meet CTAHR upperclassmen both within and outside of their majors, as well as alumni. However, as they explained, emailing invitations for events like these is ineffective—it’s better to use social media platforms like Instagram to reach a wider audience of students. Much mahalo goes to the CTAHR student attendees for their valuable feedback, along with a big thank-you to the faculty and administrators for making this event a success!
