Outstanding Graduate Student

Originally from Nepal, Roshan Paudel joined CTAHR as a Master’s student in Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences in 2016. He has been further expanding his knowledge for almost seven years as a current Ph.D. student in Tropical Plant Pathology. He has been involved in multiple organizations and programs, from the Graduate Student Organization (GSO), Society of Nematologists, East-West Center Exchange Program, and more, to volunteering with our neighboring Noelani Elementary School as a school garden activity coordinator.

Everything Roshan has absorbed as a student at CTAHR, he has spread tenfold through collaborations with CTAHR’s Cooperative Extension, presenting research, and coaching undergraduate students in the American Phytopathological Society (APS). It is not just in this way that Roshan excels in his peers' eyes; it’s in the way that fellow graduate students also describe him as “demonstrating service, support, and leadership, in small everyday actions… I am always impressed by his kind leadership and service-centered attitude.”

Whether it’s through bringing extra Gatorade to share with those in the field with him or through the more involved coaching of undergraduate and new graduate students in his lab, Roshan Paudel proudly perpetuates CTAHR’s core values. Let’s celebrate Roshan!
