Outstanding Civil Servant

Dayle Tsuha has been with the Hawaiʻi County, Waiakea Station, as an Agricultural Research Technician III, since 2009, then was promoted to an Agricultural Research Technician IV in 2020, then subsequently within the same year, was promoted to an Agricultural Research Technician V!

Dayle is very competent and resourceful in the field, comfortable with the equipment, and knows how to get jobs done. She is also a great communicator (clear and articulate), as she provides useful information on her own initiative, not just when asked, and does not hesitate to ask questions when she needs clarification. Her job experience and ability to communicate allows her to instruct and lead her work crew with natural authority.

Dayle takes a professional interest in the project objectives in wanting to understand the reasons for the methodology that CTAHR is using, and asks questions about crop biology and genetics. In short, she enjoys learning new things. She takes personal interests in the welfare of her work crew. Additionally, Faculty Principal Investigators value her opinion and advisement on personnel hiring.

Not only within CTAHR, but also with external organizations, Dayle has built great relationships with the personnel at USDA Clonal Germplasm Repository, and she has developed cooperative working arrangements with the Repository staff to jointly maintain shared facilities at Waiakea Station. She is a valuable team player who has enhanced the value of CTAHR and PBARC Cooperation.

Comments from CTAHR staff and faculty include, “In my experience, Dayle has been the key CTAHR person most responsible for the success of the Rainbow papaya seed production project at Waiakea,” “Dayle is always ready to help with a project, and it is her experience and knowledge that makes them successful,” “Dayle is a wonderful supervisor, who is always willing to train a new employees and willing to help students reach their goals,” and “Dayle has proven to be an excellent mentor for many students as they have worked at the Waiakea Station.”
