The Roots of Farming

Proponents of food sustainability in the Islands are always looking for more locally grown starches…so what about potatoes? Cooperative Extension is offering a virtual potato production workshop on Wednesday, June 17, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The workshop, open to producers only, will provide information on the following:

  • The benefits of and procedures for green-sprouting potatoes
  • Best management practices for field production of potatoes, such as field preparation, planting, fertility management, pest identification and management, and harvesting.
  • Pot/bag culture of potatoes
  • Economic challenges and potential

Participants can register here to receive more information about how to join in.

Planting seed material may be available for registrants across the state. Information on availability of seed material will be provided upon registration.

This workshop is sponsored by Cooperative Extension, GET Local, Western SARE, the Hawai‘i Department of Agriculture, and CTAHR’s Sustainable and Organic Agriculture Program.
