Grading Alternatives

The University of Hawai‘i has outlined a new emergency grading policy for the Spring 2020 semester, officially adopted and available for review. An FAQ for faculty and FAQ for students are also available.

UH adopted the Credit/No Credit option because of the exceptional circumstances created by COVID-19 and sudden transition to online courses. It is optional, so students can still choose to take a letter grade.

UH is seeking to create a process that is in the best interest of the student, that recognizes the critical role faculty play in assessing students’ mastery of course material, and that acknowledges the technical constraints of the system. For questions, contact covid19@hawaii.edu.
