There are several methods to make sure you’re getting the calls that come to your office phone, even from home.
You can forward your calls to your home landline, your cell phone – in fact, any number off campus. During COVID-19, all phones will be allowed to forward calls without a Telecom Request (TR) or the usual $2/month charge. This will be the case until students, faculty, and staff resume normal operation, at which time you’ll have 2 weeks’ notice before the call forward external feature must be removed.
To Activate Call Forwarding:
- With your phone on hook, press Forward or FWD at the bottom of your phone’s display screen.
- Enter the number to forward to: 9 followed by the 7-digit number for local numbers or 91 followed by the 10-digit number for mainland numbers.
- Press Forward/FWD again to activate.
To Deactivate Call Forwarding:
- With your phone on hook, press Forward/FWD
- Press Cancel
Reach Me: You can also activate the Reach-Me feature of voicemail. Calls will go to your voicemail box where the caller will be given the option to leave a message or try another number. If the caller chooses another number, it will call the number stored in the Reach-Me field of your voicemail box.
Voicemail-to-Email Notification: If you prefer, you can have your phone’s voicemail box take messages and send you an email notification with a .wav file of the actual voicemail message.
You can activate either Voicemail-to-Email Notification or Reach Me by following the instructions under the “Notify Me preferences” section on page 5 of this PDF. You’ll need your password, which is either the default (given) or the password you enter to get into the voicemail system when at your desk phone.
If it looks too complicated, you can just email firstname.lastname@example.org with your UH phone number, your preferred email address, and the phone number to reach, to have either Reach Me or Voicemail-to-Email set up.
A couple of notes: Both voicemail options can be activated at the same time, but they can’t be activated if you’ve got call forwarding engaged. And if you’ve got Voicemail-to-Email, you should know that deleting the email with the recorded message does not delete the message in your voicemail box—you’ll need to log in to your voicemail remotely to delete messages.
