Banding Together Against the Invaders

Combatting invasive species requires the efforts of university programs, state agencies, and non-profit organizations. CTAHR plays a major role in coordinating their sometimes disparate areas of expertise and agendas, integrating the relevant information and bringing them together for a common cause. One important step in that direction is the invasive species conference that Kaua‘i invasive species Extension agent Roshan Manandhar and CTAHR CES are organizing.

  • Date: August 22–23
  • Time: Stay tuned for more information!
  • Location: Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo on Hawai‘i Island.

This event will feature several speakers discussing the implementation and progress of Hawai‘i’s interagency biosecurity plan, research progress, and Extension activities. Participants will get information and updates on current species status and detection and eradication efforts concerning current invasive species concerns such as rapid ‘ōhi‘a death, coconut rhinoceros beetle, Naio thrips, little fire ants, miconia, rose-ringed parakeets, and more. Speakers include CTAHR researchers and Extension agents and representatives from invasive species committees and other working-group partners. The keynote speaker will be Mark Hoddle, an applied biological control specialist at UC Riverside.

More details about the meeting agenda and registration information will be available shortly. If you have any questions, contact Roshan at roshanm@hawaii.edu.
