Make Your Voice Heard About Aquaculture

Aquaculture is a growing field—now, help it to grow even better! The Center for Tropical and Subtropical Aquaculture has begun developing the priority areas for their next round of funding, but they still need to hear from you. Please complete the survey as soon as possible (the original deadline was April 5, but it’s been extended) and let CTSA know what’s important to your aquaculture research and stakeholders—mangrove crabs? Shellfish? Locally produced aquatic feeds? Now is your chance to get support so you can support producers and other stakeholders.

As director Cheng-Sheng Lee notes in his most recent “Letter from the Director,” “Introducing new and innovative approaches to aquaculture industry needs is always a top priority.” The stakes are high, and the need is great: “In the Pacific Islands, we are surrounded by ocean, and have thus been an integral part of meeting global seafood demands. We can continue contributing to the food supply for generations to come by incorporating more sustainable aquaculture into our food systems. But we must first gain public support from within our local communities, and deal with the alarming pollution from plastic in the ocean. Then, we can really depend on seafood to feed the ever-increasing global population.” Read his full letter here.
