Lab of Possibilities

Lab of Possibilities
Did you know that the ADSC Seed Lab sold some 246,400 papaya seeds last year? Imagine each of them growing into a graceful, lacy-leafed, fruit-bearing tree! This and other fun facts can be found in the cover story of last week’s Crave section of the Star-Advertiser, which is all about the Seed Lab. The seeds it sells come from varieties that have been shown to grow well in Hawai‘i’s unique conditions, grown at the college’s experiment stations and harvested from fruits and seed pods right in the lab. They’re fresh and local and extremely affordable—in fact, the Lab often donates the seeds outright to schools that are interested in adding gardening to their curriculum. Read all about it and then consider picking up some seeds for yourself: the Seed Lab is open in Sherman 108 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays.
