Get to the Birds

There are a couple of different ways to see the Symphony of the Hawaiian Birds performed by the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra…and you know you want to! (If you don’t yet know you want to, just check out this sneak preview, a delightful animated composition paying homage to the ‘ō‘ō!) You can attend the ‘Ohana Concert that will be performed for the public on November 14 at 7 p.m.—it’s just $15 per ticket, or $5 with student ID. Bring your friends and family! Tickets can be purchased at the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra’s website. If you want an even more affordable—in fact, free—musical experience, you can volunteer to help with the student concerts for grades 4–12 that will be held on the mornings of Wednesday, October 31, and Thursday, November 1. Show up at 8 a.m. on either day to help set up and move 5,000 kids into and out of the concert hall, then sit in on the second performance, from 10:45 to 11:30, when the “work” is done! If you want to volunteer to help with the student concerts, sign up using this Google Docs form. Check out the project website for lesson plans, videos, and more. And for even more information, watch the project documentary.
