Sustain Your Pedagogy

Anyone who’s currently teaching or developing a sustainability-relevant course may want to consider applying for the Second Annual Grand Challenges Institute (GC18), three days of intensive trans-disciplinary professional development with course and educational project (re)design focusing on conservation and lived practice. Faculty from across the UH system (approximately two per campus) can apply to become Grand Challenges Institute Fellows and receive a $300 honorarium. Not only that, but all Hawai‘i participants can apply to waive the registration fee, and neighbor-island participants may apply for scholarships to help pay for travel and accommodation by emailing sencer@hawaii.edu. The course runs May 14–16; fellows are expected to attend all three days of the Institute; develop a (re)designed course or informal education project that include teaching to the grand challenges topics; and integrate an active pedagogy into the course or project. The institute is organized by leaders from SENCER Hawai‘i and the UH System Sustainability Office and is supported by multiple national and local entities. More information to come!
