Undergraduate students with an interest in plant, data, or computer science – plus an urgent need to pay the rent – pay attention! because the Dept. of Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences is offering a paid internship this summer.

This research program in data-driven agriculture, under professors Nhu Nguyen, Mike Muszynski, and Mikey Kantar, is being funded by the USDA’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative - Education and Workforce Development Research and Extension Experiences for Undergraduates.

Students will learn to design, measure, analyze, and interpret data through a hand-on research experience, with professional development opportunities. The eight-week program will pay a $3,500 stipend, plus housing allowance. Pacific Islanders, underrepresented minority students, and first-generation college students are encouraged to apply because the program is designed to meet the needs of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific Islands.

“We’re very excited to offer our Data-Driven Ag undergraduate research program this summer!,” says Tai McClellan Maaz, program coordinator. “This paid internship is a great opportunity for students to gain research experience while developing the critical skills needed to solve current and future problems. We encourage Pacific Islanders, underrepresented minority students, and first-generation college students to apply because this program is designed to meet the needs of Hawai`i and the Pacific Islands.”

Please apply by February 28 at REEU. Contact Tai for any questions.
