CTAHR Hosts Title IX Panel Discussion

The year 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of Title IX. CTAHR’s ASAO and the Office of Title IX hosted a panel discussion earlier this month, on September 16th, 2022. Title IX covers all complaints of sexual misconduct, which include: sexual assault, sexual harassment, gender-based harassment, stalking, dating and domestic violence, and more. This anonymous virtual webinar served as an opportunity to listen to our community about what Title IX issues are most relevant and concerning on our campus.

We were joined by wonderful panelists:

• Jessica Kaneshiro & Paul Bresnahan from the Office of Title IX
• Jamie Newalu and Leslie Cabingabang, Confidential Advocates
• Camaron Miyamoto of the LGBTQ+ Center
• Sarah Rice of the Department of Public Safety
• Christopher Yanuaria of PAU Violence and Respondent Support
• Alexander Khaddouma of the Counseling and Student Development Center

The goal of this event was to ensure students, faculty, and staff are aware of their resources and are more knowledgeable about what situations are covered under Title IX. CTAHR students, faculty, and staff had the opportunity to anonymously ask questions regarding various Title IX topics and concerns.

A diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty and staff attended the anonymous webinar. A compiled list of resources and FAQ’s that were addressed during the Title IX Webinar can be accessed here. Additionally, the questions we received and responses from our panelists will help to guide future campaigns and efforts by the college.
