Workshop tickets required for the following activities: (general admission ticket not needed)

  • Revisiting Regenerative Home Gardening: Linking Soil Health to Plant Health to Human Health | 8:45 - 9:45 am ($5 fee): Learn regenerative home gardening skills from Master Gardener Russell Leong. This workshop is not intended for advanced gardeners or farmers. This workshop will cover:
An introduction to the Pearl City Urban Garden, Master Gardener Program, and the Master Gardener Training Garden (MGTG), - Getting all the cloud documents we have produced for the MGTG by scanning the QR code at the MGTG entrance. - Differences between conventional, organic, sustainable, and regenerative gardening. - Soil Health – Suggestions for improving you garden soil health. - Plant Health – Historical nutrient density of the tomato and what it means for you. Impacts to plant and animal nutrient density. - Human Health – Implications of western diet on human health.

 

  • Learn to Worm Workshop | 9:00 - 11:00 AM ( Register for workshops HERE!): Learn from Worm Expert, Mindy Jaffe. She will lead you through the process of assembling your own worm kit, step by step. She will give you a lesson on vermicompost production and instruction for maintaining a productive worm bin. Proceeds support the O'ahu Worm OhanaCTAHR Vermicast Sales while they last!

 

  • Role of Vermicast and Herbs In The Vegetable Garden | 10:00 - 11:00 AM ($5 fee): Master Gardeners will explain how Vermicast and herb plants benefit the garden by reducing pests and lower the need for insecticides while attracting beneficial insects resulting in larger harvests. Learn how Vermicast (aka worm castings or vermicompost) and worm tea improves vegetable yield. Tour the garden, where over 25 herbs are companion planted alongside over 20 vegetable plants. Take home free herb seeds/cuttings along with an Eggplant for your garden!

 

General admission garden exhibits are free and run from 9:00 - 11:30 am:

  • 4-H Activities for youth and 4-H cookbooks for sale.
  • CTAHR Vermicast Sale: Ask the MGTG how to use vermicast to amend your vegetable and ornamental plants.
  • Propagating Succulents and HI Native Plants: The Xeriscape Hui Master Gardeners will demonstrate how to propagate succulents from leaves and cuttings with examples of stages of growth. Learn how to grow your own HI Native plants from cuttings and take them home. A limited number of succulent dish gardens will be for sale. Bring your questions!
  • Waterwise Home Idea Garden: Walk through the beautifully landscaped garden to gather ideas for the design of your own water saving xeric garden.
  • Grow your own plant cuttings with the CCCC System device: Learn to root your favorite ornamentals plants like gardenia with a plastic bag system (no misting needed). Talk to the designer and take home a free rooting system device.
  • Got a Plant Question? Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer your gardening questions. CTAHR seeds for sale.

 

UGC Guidelines:

  • All guests must sign a UH consent waiver at the registration area upon arrival. Parents/guardians must provide supervision of minors at all times during the event to ensure their safety and security.
  • Bring drinking water to stay hydrated in the heat, and sun protection.
  • Only guide dogs are allowed. No pets allowed.
