Sugarcane Field Day
Poamoho Research Station

Dr. Ted Radovich and Dr. Noa Lincoln gave a tour of the sugarcane growing at the Poamoho Research Station for this field day. Participants got to view several sugarcane varieties and their differences in coloration of the cane. The sugarcane varieties all have their own names and stories associated with their history. The cane was juiced and everyone got to taste freshly squeezed organic cane juice.

This field day provided:

  • Observations of each of the sugarcane varieties growth characteristics
  • Management practices
  • Pest issues and management strategies
  • Crop nutritional values
  • Culinary uses
  • Taste evaluations

Read the story "Sugarcane is not dead, it's different" in the Kaunana.
