A Nationwide Centennial
The Cooperative Extension Service was created by the Smith-Lever Act on May 8, 1914 to provide agricultural and home economics outreach. At the University of Hawai‘i, which had been performing in agricultural outreach since its founding in 1907, Cooperative Extension was formally established in 1928, when Governor Farrington signed the Territorial Extension Act and UH President David Crawford was named director of extension.
