The Urban Garden Center is hosting a Produce Safety Alliance Food Safety grower-training event that will teach participants all they need to know about growing safely, healthily, and in compliance with regulations. It’s being offered on Friday, March 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This workshop is aimed at fruit and vegetable growers who are interested in learning about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, Good Agricultural Practices, and co-management of natural resources and food safety.
The trainers will provide a full day of instruction introducing the concept of produce safety and discussing worker health, hygiene, and training; soil amendments; wildlife, domesticated animals, and land use; agricultural water; postharvest handling and sanitation; and how to develop a food safety plan.
The cost is a special reduced rate of $50, thanks to sponsorship by the City and County of Honolulu. The fee includes lunch and refreshments, PSA grower training manual, and a certificate of course completion.
