Outstanding Scholars

Congratulations to TPSS students Judy Cacal and Giselle Bryant, who were honored by the American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS)! Judy is the winner of both an Outstanding Horticulture Student Award and an ASHS Collegiate Scholars Award, and Giselle is a winner of an ASHS Collegiate Scholars Award.

Getting Trees in the Ground

In honor of Arbor Day, Andy Kaufman (TPSS) assisted a class of first- and second-graders to plant a hala tree on the UH campus; then, in honor of ‘Ohi‘a Lehua Day, he assisted a class of third- and fourth-graders to plant ‘ohi‘a trees on the Mid-Pacific campus.

As part of the Malama ‘Aina Manoa Project—a collaboration between Botany, TPSS, and Buildings & Grounds Management—grad student Kauahi Perez (TPSS) collaborated with Noweo Kai (Botany) on a SAPFB grant proposal to purchase native Hawaiian plants for areas on Manoa campus in dire need of beautification.
