CTAHR is Open for Counselors!

In collaboration with UH Transfer Coordination Center, the Academic and Student Affairs Office coordinated its second CTAHR Open House on Friday, December 8, 2017. There were a total of 19 counselors from community colleges in the UH system, including counselors from the outer islands, in addition to three CTAHR student ambassadors in attendance. The purpose of this event was to give community college counselors a preview of what CTAHR has to offer their students from their respective institutions, should they choose to transfer over to CTAHR.

Although this was a condensed version of the previous CTAHR Open House that we had back in July, the morning started off with refreshments and introductions, followed by a brief overview of all the undergraduate CTAHR programs. Counselors and ambassadors were then taken on visits to select undergraduate programs including Biological Engineering (BE), Molecular Biosciences and Biotechnology (MBB), Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM), and Tropical Agriculture and the Environment (TAE). Counselors and ambassadors visited with Dr. Chan (NREM) to learn about the fabulous things that NREM does, got to see the biosensors created in the Jenkins Lab (BE), visited the snails and opihi in the Bingham Lab (MBB), and were given a showcase of displays and demos of the awesome science that happens in the TAE program. The day ended with a visit the Insect Museum on the 6th floor of Gilmore Hall. Overall, counselors really enjoyed their brief but informative visit to CTAHR!
