Agriculture and Awareness Day 2018

The College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources hosted over 500 hundred 5th grade students and teachers at the Oahu Urban Garden Center for it annual Agriculture and Awareness Day.  Students participated in interactive exhibits and presentations by the Oahu Master Gardeners, UH Honeybee Project, CTAHR Groups and Departments, the Hawaii Cattlemen’s Association, Hawaii Department of Agriculture’s Plant Quarantine Branch, Koolau Mountains Watershed Partnership, and many more.

Dean Nicholas Comerford welcomed students to the Oahu Urban Garden Center and encouraged students to get involved with 4H.  Associate Dean Ania Wieczorek also welcomed students and demonstrated using an apple that only 1/32 of the Earth’s surface is available to grow food!

The event was a success and we couldn’t have done it without the help from our many volunteers!  Thank you to CTAHR Fiscal, NREM, Extension Agents, OCS, Oahu Master Gardener Program, CTAHR Fruit Hui, CTAHR Xeriscape Hui, TPSS, HDFS, Faculty (TPSS, PEPS, ANSC), and UH’s Environmental Health and Safety Office.
