CTAHR Welcomes You Back!

Fall 2022 marked the first semester stepping foot on campus for not only our freshman year students, but for many of our sophomore and transfer students. CTAHR wanted to welcome everyone back in a big way by holding events on events on events! Starting with the college’s New Student Orientation on August 16th. The students were introduced to the college through a presentation and talk from the Interim Dean Dr. Ania Wieczorek, the Academic and Student Affairs staff, as well as enjoyed a talk from Dr. Mehana Vaughan. The fresh faces were able to meet with faculty across CTAHR’s nine different undergraduate programs as well as take part in a service project where new students and student ambassadors spruced up the Biomed Courtyard for the new semester! Take a look at our flickr page linked here.

In addition, the CTAHR ASAO office hosted a themed event for every day of the week of August 29th - September 2nd! The events were as follows:

Monday: Lounge Tour
Tuesday: Paint w/ Ambassadors in The Lounge
Wednesday: Movie Night (Everything Everywhere All At Once)
Thursday: Grab & Go & Dr. Bonnie Buntainʻs One Health Discussion
Friday: Cooking Show

The start of Welcome Week featured a tour of the student lounge, which allowed students to check out the many resources available to them as a CTAHR student including wifi, printing capabilities, space to study, as well as free use of the kitchen appliances and food within them. The tour was accompanied by fresh squeezed lemonade from Hot Dog on a Stick and baked goods from Brug Bakery!

Tuesday brought a chance to de-stress and wind down with painting in the lounge with the wonderful company of our CTAHR Student Ambassadors! Students were able to ask questions and chat with ambassadors while utilizing the free paint kits to create art which was used to decorate and beautify the lounge.

Wednesday was a chance for students to get cozy and catch up on the A24 indie hit ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’. Students were welcome to watch a mother’s epic battle through parallel universes, taxes, and the relationships she holds with her family and those around her, while munching on popcorn with complimentary hot chocolate.

Thursday was a busy day of double events!  CTAHR and Coalition to Stop Campus Hunger held its monthly Grab & Go, which features fresh produce, canned goods, and pantry items.  Mahalo to the Urban Garden Center Fruit Hui, GoFarm Hawaii, Newman Center, Student Activity & Program Fee Board and Aloha Harvest for their support.  Simultaneously, CTAHR Outstanding Alumnus, Dr. Bonnie Buntain, led a series of discussions on the important topic of One Health.  Faculty, Alumni, Students, and Friends of CTAHR joined in person as well as virtually on Zoom.  Mahalo Dr. Buntain for sharing your manaʻo and your experiences with the Pre-Vet Club.

CTAHR’s Welcome Week’s finale was the return of our monthly cooking show with FSHN instructor Lara Hackney .  This month, we focused on local foods featuring dishes of Beet Poke, Teriyaki Tofu, and Olena Rice.  Join us next month for a tour of Japanese cuisine featuring Harusame (Japanese Glass Noodles) Soup, Inari Sushi, and Andagi (Okinawan Donuts).
