CTAHR Has All the Experts
In an effort to share the breadth of CTAHR’s wealth of knowledge, the CTAHR Alumni Association and Friends proudly present CTAHR’s Ask the Alumni Expert. Each month since November 2020, the Alumni Association has hosted Zoom talk story sessions with Alumni who are subject matter experts in their field. Participants are invited to submit questions ahead of time or can jump in and ask during the chat. There have been a lot of great topics so far! In November, we had Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences graduate, Sean Fong of Hawaiian Turf Grass talk turf - it was amazing to find out how much science can go into your lawn. December was an excellent discussion on aquaculture and aquaponics with Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering PhD, Anthony Mau of Kupu Place. 2021 kicked off with Natural Resources and Environmental Management graduate, Frankie Koethe. Frankie spoke about her adventurous career and opportunities available for people looking to get involved in conservation efforts. Our latest, February installment, featured Dr. Monica Esquivel, a graduate from CTAHR’s PhD in Nutrition program, as well as faculty member and Director of our Dietetics Program. Dr. Esquivel covered topics such as the benefits of turmeric, diabetes care and the age old quandary of how to get your kids to eat more veggies. Also, did you know that in the later years of your life, you start loosing the sensation of thirst? This is why it is so important to keep our kupuna well hydrated! If you missed out on our Alumni Expert sessions so far, not to worry! Each one was recorded and are now available on our CTAHR YouTube Channel. You won’t want to miss next month, its going to be all about animals, featuring Hawaii State Veterinarian and Animal Sciences Alumna, Dr. Raquel Wong. Join us on Thursday, March 18th at 5 PM on Zoom.
