If you haven’t yet
registered for the annual CTAHR Awards Banquet, which will be at the Ala Moana Hotel on Friday, May 4, now’s the time to secure your place! You’ll get a chance to celebrate the successes of students, faculty, staff, and friends, including Brian Bushe, winner of the award for Outstanding Service for an APT Employee! Brian is, says one of his nominators, “the beating heart of the CTAHR Agricultural Diagnostic Service in Hilo.” A previous winner of this very award and, more recently, honored by the Hawaii Florists and Shippers Association/Hawaii Floriculture and Nursery Association, Brian diagnoses pests and diseases in over a thousand samples annually and provides recommendations for their control. He was the first to identify and report several economically and ecologically important diseases and insects, including the fungus that causes Rapid ‘Ohi‘a Death, allowing Extension agents, farmers, and natural resource managers to get started working towards methods of control and containment. Come congratulate him and his fellow winners at the Banquet!
