The Variety Showcase went tropical at Kapi‘olani Community College thanks to GoFarm Hawai‘i and the Culinary Breeding Network. An array of exciting crop varietals was brought together with culture and cuisine, blended brilliantly in bite-size tastings by local chefs at more than 15 action stations. In all, 49 plant breeders, agricultural researchers, farmers and chefs participated.
About 200 people attended the event, including agricultural leadership at all levels and farmers on all scales eager to see what’s being conjured up in the food and farm scene for Hawai‘i’s future.
GoFarm’s Jay Bost worked with Oregon State University agriculture researcher Lane Selman to bring the Culinary Breeding Network event to O‘ahu. The network supports efforts to improve the quality and taste of local farm fare through interactions of breeders, farmers, buyers, chefs, distributors and eaters.
