CTAHR faculty and staff are excited to host their first Open House at the Oʻahu Urban Garden Center since the pandemic – and public interest is super high – so head over Pearl City this Saturday morning!
UGC will combine the event with the popular “Second Saturday at the Garden” to provide a variety of educational exhibits and demonstrations for the general public. Topics range from nutrition, youth entrepreneurial skill development, and sustainable agriculture to Native Hawaiian landscape design and plantings.
Although Urban Garden Center no longer offers self tours due to staffing issues, the Open House will allow all interested stakeholders to engage with Land Grant university scientists, faculty, staff, Master Gardeners, CTAHR Extension agents, volunteers, community members, and other Hawaiʻi-loving enthusiasts – as it has throughout the college’s 100-year history in the islands.
“Please join us for an enjoyable day!” says Tina Lau. “This is a special opportunity for you to learn from industry experts about home gardening, food safety, heat tolerant lettuce, rat lung worm prevention, ʻulu tree care (breadfruit), native ground covers, organic fertilizer options, garden row covers, Farm to School programs, rain barrel use, landscaping with drought tolerant plants and much more. The 4-H Life club and Extension agents will be leading fun activities so bring the whole family!”
Registration via Eventbrite or by calling the UGC at (808) 453-5060.
