With seasonal rains coming down seemingly nonstop, the topic of irrigation was front and center as Oʻahu County Extension hosted a workshop for backyard and Master Gardeners.
Guests welcomed the opportunity to get out of the rains to attend the educational workshop as Extension agents explained measures that CTAHR has taken to reduce potable water use at the Urban Garden Center, and the role of Cooperative Extension in fulfilling CTAHR’s land grant college mission.
Participants got their “hands wet” by working together to organize common irrigation supplies, design their own irrigation systems, and test their personalized irrigation system by way of a garden hose attachment.
The Extension in the Garden series is designed to heighten awareness of Cooperative Extension’s programmatic offerings. Extension agents from the Dept. of Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences: Joshua Silva, Tina Lau, Amjad Ahmad, and Alberto Ricordi helped to put on the event in coordination with Oʻahu County staff members.
With interest steady from the public and feedback positive, an advanced irrigation workshop is next in the pipeline to prepare the public for spring 2023.
