Get a glimpse of the glamour and sophistication of that time period at the Cruise Line exhibition, curated by Shu Hwa Lin’s FDM 460 students. Featuring 16 items selected from the Costume Museum, the display will be up in Miller 112 through October 18.

A Smart Scholar Making Smart Clothing

Shu Hwa Lin (FDM) invited Ph.D. candidate Ching I “Genny” Lai to CTAHR as a visiting scholar to learn 3D body scanning in the department. A designer of smart clothing, Genny is planning to research and design electromagnetic protection garments for children with 3D body scanning technology under Shu Hwa’s guidance.

Like Try Tri-Parenting?

The Center on the Family is hosting a series of brown bag talks this fall. The first talk is Friday, September 21, from 12 to 1 p.m. in Miller 101. Lori Yancura (FCS) will speak on “Tri-Parenting or Try Parenting: Online Posts About a Non-Traditional Family Structure.” In tri-parenting, parental obligations and rights are held by more than two people.

Sothy will be teaching Family Resiliency and Community Development courses, while helping to develop food systems for resilient families and communities in Hawai‘i, Cambodia, and across the Pacific. Rheta will provide instruction in the early childhood and childhood curriculum.

The annual rankings are out from Fashion-Schools.org, and FDM continues to rise! In fashion design, it’s now in the top 20% of schools nationally, up from the top 25% last year, and in fashion merchandising, it’s also in the top 20%, up from the top 30% last year.
