Field Day on Cauliflower Variety Trials
Whitmore Research Station

Cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis) is a cool-season crop that is not commonly grown in Hawaii. The optimal temperature range for growth and development is 65 F° to 68 F° during the day. Temperatures in this range are not common on Oahu and may limit production. Previous evaluations conducted in the Kunia area suggest that certain cauliflower varieties can be grown on Oahu during certain times of the year. This trial looks to evaluate 12 commercially available cauliflower varieties for their potential commercial production in Hawaii.

This field day provided:

  • Observations of each varieties growth characteristics
  • Management practices
  • Pest issues and management strategies
  • Crop nutritional values
  • Culinary uses
  • Taste evaluations
