Updated maps of confirmed Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death sites located on the Island of Hawaiʻi, Kauaʻi, and Oʻahu. Maps do not display locations where samples were tested and Ceratocystis was undetected.
Ceratocystis huliohia, the less virulent of the two fungal pathogens causing Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death, was detected on the Island of Kauaʻi in May 2018. In December 2018, Ceratocystis lukuohia was confirmed.
In July 2019, a single ʻōhiʻa tree was confirmed to be infected with C. huliohia on Maui and that tree was destroyed. The first detection of C. huliohia confirmed on Oʻahu was at the end of July 2019 and there are 5 confirmed cases to date. No C. lukuohia has been detected on the island of Oʻahu.
