On Friday, February 9, CTAHR and the Coalition to Stop Campus Hunger will be holding their next cooking class. FSHN Instructor Lara Hackney will demonstrate how to create Quinoa Salad, Ratatouille Tart, and Chocolate Pudding. Limited free cooking kits are available for CTAHR students. CTAHR Alumni and Friends rang in a new year of festivities on January 13th with the 2024 Kauai BBQ with the Deans. A bright and beautiful day welcomed over 90 alumni, friends and community partners to the CTAHR Kaua’i Research Station. Participants chatted with interim Dean and Director of CTAHR Ania Wieczorek, Associate Dean and Associate Director of Research Walter Bowen, Associate Dean and Associate Director of Extension Jeremy Elliott-Engel and Interim Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs Catherine Chan to learn all about what is happening at the College.
In a proactive move to foster collaborative discussions, share insights and identify strategies to enhance CTAHR’s collective efforts in the areas of student recruitment, student retention and communication, ASAO recently organized a mini retreat. This event gathered 31 participants, which included 18 departmental faculty including chairs, faculty advisors, and faculty, to explore key themes of recruitment, retention, and communication.
The CTAHR Academic and Student Affairs Office held the Spring 2024 New Student Orientation on January 6, 2024. The goal of this event was to welcome incoming first-time and transfer students to our college, introduce them to our office and resources, and to help get them acquainted with the campus.
We are pleased to recognize Dr. Sothy Eng as this year’s CTAHR Dean’s Teaching Award winner and the college nominee who will compete in this year’s UH Manoa Excellence in Teaching Awards. Dr. Eng is an Associate Professor of Human Development and Family Studies who has been a valuable member of CTAHR with outstanding contributions to teaching since Fall 2018. The award is a testament to Dr. Eng’s dedication, passion, and the positive impacts he has made on students and the broader educational community.
