On the Wings of Song

On the Wings of Song

The Hawaii Symphony Orchestra will again be performing the successful multimedia collaboration Symphony of the Hawaiian Birds, spearheaded by Melissa Price (NREM), on October 31 and November 1 for students in grades 4 through 12. If you know any teachers who might like to bring their classes to a performance, make sure to let them know! Explain to them that this is a free educational concert featuring six new compositions and videos/animations about Hawaiian birds created by local composers and artists, and that the project website includes educational resources such as the Hawaiian Forest Bird Education Interdisciplinary Unit Plan, developed for students to work with prior to attending the symphony. There are also videos and other materials to engage the students in learning, as well as an art contest and other resources. There will be performances at 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. on both days at the Neal S. Blaisdell Concert Hall. Class teachers should apply here. And for everyone else, be assured that there will be a performance open to adults and the larger community at some future date, possibly in November—stay tuned for more details! If you have any questions, you can email symphonyofhawaiianbirds@gmail.com
