4-H Ali‘i

Join the June 25th online ceremony for 4-H supporters

4-H Ali‘i

Since 1947, the 4-H Ahaolelo (“gathering for a meeting”) has brought together 4-H’ers from throughout Hawai‘i, as well as Canada, Guam, California, Micronesia, and Japan.

As the Ahaolelo website explains, “The 4-H Ahaolelo is rich in tradition. The week of ‘coming together’ has played an important part in the development of 4-H in Hawaii. The 4-H Ahaolelo provides opportunities to make friends and exchange ideas.”

One of the distinctly Hawaiian features of the 4-H Ahaolelo is the annual presentation of representative products of the land to persons who symbolize the highest type of leadership in Hawai‘i.

Respectful of today’s social distancing, the 4-H Ahaolelo planning committee stepped up to the challenge and has created a wonderful virtual conference for youth participants.

The week will wrap up with a traditional Ali’i ceremony to honor two very special supporters of 4-H, former CTAHR Outstanding Alumnus Derek Kurisu and the late Barry Taniguchi, whose son will be present to represent him.

All are welcome to join the online Ali‘i presentation via Zoom on June 25 at 6:00 p.m. Please RSVP by emailing Rebecca Settlage at settlage@hawaii.edu to give the organizers a sense of who’s attending.
