Rabbitfish in the Pacific

CTSA will conduct virtual training on aquaculture methods

Rabbitfish in the Pacific

Want to know more about sustainably raising rabbitfish, a popular food throughout the Western Pacific region? Farmers, researchers, and stakeholders of the Center for Tropical and Subtropical Aquaculture are invited to a three-day virtual training workshop on the hatchery, nursery, and grow-out protocols for farming rabbitfish, offered by CTSA’s ongoing “Improving Rabbitfish Seed Production Capacity in Palau” project.

The free virtual workshop, held June 21, 22, and 23, starts at 2:00 p.m. HST each day and will be led by Miguel de los Santos of Palau Community College and Chatham Callan of the Oceanic Institute of Hawaiʻi Pacific University. Participants will learn the basic tools for rabbitfish hatchery, nursery, and grow-out in Palau, as well as broodstock management, spawning, egg incubation, larval rearing, feed production, and more.

At the end of the workshop, CTSA will host a discussion on the current status and future opportunities for rabbitfish production in the Pacific.

You can register here or email mbrooks@ctsa.org to provide your name, professional or educational affiliation, and primary reason for attending the workshop. CTSA will send registered participants the Zoom link and agenda. Please share this invitation with anyone interested.
