Why tropical oilseed tree crops?

Oils from perennial tropical oilseed bearing trees are potential sources of biodiesel production in much of the insular areas of the Pacific.  Compared to oilseed crops, the perennial nature of trees has the advantage of minimizing soil disturbance and lowering planting costs incurred routinely for annual crops. Biodiesel from oil extracted from seeds of tropical oilseed tree crops can be produced by an established trans-esterification process.
