Celebrate the careers, contributions, and well-deserved retirement of HNFAS faculty Brent Buckley and Douglas Vincent and Extension agent Glen Fukumoto on December 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Ag Sci 219. Attendees are requested to contribute either monetary donations or potluck foods.

Shell Gain

Members of two departments collaborated to publish a new study in the prestigious journal Nature Scientific Report. Co-authors Nirvay Sah, Birendra Mishra, and Rajesh Jha (all HNFAS) and Donna Lee Kuehu (MBBE) discussed novel genes that are involved in the regulation of egg formation in poultry.

PhD student Solange Saxby (HNFAS) was recently honored with a $3,500 award from the C-MAIKI #mahimicrobe2018 graduate competition for her innovative research proposal to simulate human digestion and fecal fermentation to study kalo as a functional prebiotic food. As an awardee, Solange will present her work at the C-MÄ€IKI symposium on May 9, 2019.

An Alternative to Antibiotics

Rajesh Jha (HNFAS) delivered a keynote speech at the Poultry Nutrition and Health Forum in Beijing focused on “Fermentable Carbohydrates in Poultry Nutrition to Modulate Gut Health.” Fermentable carbohydrates, considered an alternative to antibiotics in poultry feed, are becoming increasingly important as many consumers are looking for chicken raised without antibiotics.
