Celebrate the careers, contributions, and well-deserved retirement of HNFAS faculty Brent Buckley and Douglas Vincent and Extension agent Glen Fukumoto on December 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Ag Sci 219. Attendees are requested to contribute either monetary donations or potluck foods.
Members of two departments collaborated to publish a new study in the prestigious journal Nature Scientific Report. Co-authors Nirvay Sah, Birendra Mishra, and Rajesh Jha (all HNFAS) and Donna Lee Kuehu (MBBE) discussed novel genes that are involved in the regulation of egg formation in poultry.
PhD student Solange Saxby (HNFAS) was recently honored with a $3,500 award from the C-MAIKI #mahimicrobe2018 graduate competition for her innovative research proposal to simulate human digestion and fecal fermentation to study kalo as a functional prebiotic food. As an awardee, Solange will present her work at the C-MĀIKI symposium on May 9, 2019.
Thanksgiving Day is just around corner, and in its annual tradition, HNFAS is throwing a Thanksgiving Day potluck lunch/dinner. It will be held on Thursday, November 22, from 12 noon to 3 p.m. in Ag. Sciences 219. If you plan to attend, please RSVP, indicating any guest(s) you're bringing and which dish(es) and/or beverages you’ll be sharing.
Rajesh Jha (HNFAS) delivered a keynote speech at the Poultry Nutrition and Health Forum in Beijing focused on “Fermentable Carbohydrates in Poultry Nutrition to Modulate Gut Health.” Fermentable carbohydrates, considered an alternative to antibiotics in poultry feed, are becoming increasingly important as many consumers are looking for chicken raised without antibiotics.
