Alan Martin—the first student pursuing a culinology degree through a 2+2 Kapi‘olani Community College+CTAHR food science program—is already putting his education to work as a baker at the Kahala Hotel and Resort.
The Children’s Healthy Living Program was designated a Center of Excellence and awarded $2.1 million in USDA funding to continue its successful efforts to decrease the prevalence of childhood obesity in the Pacific.
During the Spring 2018 semester, HNFAS provided more than 4000 muffins and 1000 Grab and Go meals to students for free. Food preparation was a joint effort of Joannie Dobbs and Alan Titchenal (both HNFAS), with volunteer help from HNFAS students Simen Sam, Vanessa Almeida, Katie Seaton, and Nicole Tomasa.
