Congratulations to Jinan Banna, who has been distinguished by the American Society for Nutrition with a Nutrition Education and Behavioral Sciences Research Interest Section Mid-Career Award. This highly competitive award is presented to a mid-career investigator who demonstrates outstanding research and contributions to the field of nutrition education and/or behavior change.
Don’t let the focus on COVID-19 blind you to other important aspects of health! Jinan Banna, in the Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences, recently gave a live motivational wellness talk on “The Power of Fruit and Veggies for Health and Beyond!” through WYAO Hawaii Corporate Wellness, LLC.
Normally celebrated at the CTAHR Annual Banquet, this year’s Dean’s Award recipients will be honored here, on your laptops and tablets, and with their names carved into the plaques that adorn Gilmore Hall. Prize monies will also be distributed. The 2020 Dean’s Award for Ka Pouhana mentorship goes to Kacie Ho, assistant professor in food science.
CTAHR dietetics alumnae Shelley Wong and Lucia Amore, currently medical students at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, are continuing the CTAHR tradition of service! They are on track to graduate as M.D.s next year, but right now they’re helping make things a little easier for classmates who graduated in 2019—young doctors whose already exhausting and stressful intern year is exacerbated by COVID-19.
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is celebrating 50 years of successful programming! In Hawai‘i, EFNEP is a grassroots initiative of CTAHR’s Cooperative Extension Service in cooperation with county, state, and federal partners. It teaches parents, caregivers, and youth the essentials of nutrition, food safety, food resource management, food preparation, and physical activity.
