It happened on April Fool’s Day, but those who promoted Nick Yamauchi to his new position were no fools! On April 1, Nick was hired as farm foreman at the Kona Research Station, after working there for almost 2 years as an agricultural technician III. He has been helping to conduct research on coffee and macadamia nuts, but now he’ll be responsible for the station operations more broadly.
Know someone who wants to work in a beautiful environment and be an integral part of research and Extension that will help ag producers and members of the community throughout the state? Let them know that two agricultural research technician III positions are now open at Waiakea Station and Mealani Station on the Big Island.
This year’s illustrious and deserving awardees for the 2019 CTAHR Banquet have been selected, including Dave Chun (left) for Ka Lei Hano and Barry Brennan (PEPS, right) for Outstanding Alumnus. To congratulate them in person and hear more about their impressive and helpful accomplishments, make sure that you come to the 2019 CTAHR Banquet!
Now macadamia growers have a new weapon against an invasive pest, the macadamia felted coccid. Alyssa Cho (TPSS) and her collaborators showed that pruning the canopy of the trees reduced populations of the insect by half. Alyssa collaborated with Mark Wright (PEPS) and Extension agent Andrea Kawabata, with support from Rosemary Gutierrez-Coarite and Javier Mollinedo.
Every office needs someone to keep it running smoothly, which is why the Kamuela Cooperative Extension office is so glad that Raquel Stephenson has joined as the new office assistant IV. Raquel is originally from O‘ahu, but she and her family moved to agricultural land in Waimea on Hawai‘i Island several years ago. She is excited about learning more about the Big Island as well as agriculture on the island.
