FCS student group offers outreach to keiki and families

The Friends of the Family student club of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences hosted a booth at the 26th annual Children and Youth Day on the grounds of the Hawaii State Capitol. An estimated 50,000 people attended this free event for Hawai‘i’s families. The Friends of the Family members shared dehydration-prevention methods with children and parents and engaged the keiki in drawing pictures of how they stay hydrated every day.

Student fellowships available for International Livestock Forum

Students interested in attending the 2020 ILF should consider applying for student travel fellowships. It will bring together industry leaders, government professionals, and members of academia to discuss domestic and international livestock and food production. Fellows will also get to attend a rodeo, experience unique tours of some of Colorado’s top agricultural enterprises, have behind-the-scenes access to the National Western Stock Show, and engage in a full day of networking and interaction with an impressive lineup of keynote speakers and industry panelists.

Submit student posters for the Landscape Industry Council’s conference

The Landscape Industry Council of Hawaii (LICH) is again inviting undergraduate and graduate students to submit abstracts for this year’s Student Poster Session at the LICH Green Industry Conference and Tradeshow, which will be held on October 14 at the Hawaii Convention Center. LICH is looking for research abstracts with relevant applications to landscaping and the landscape industry in Hawai‘i.

Student designs are exhibited at international art museum

Casual wardrobe staple or work of art? For these FDM 338 students, it’s both! In Ju-Young Kang’s 2D/3D Computer-Aided Design class, students created Hawaiian-inspired T-shirt prints. Twelve of the designs, by nine FDM students, were accepted for presentation and exhibited at the 2019 7th annual T-Shirt International Exhibition at the Gyo Dong Museum of Art in South Korea!

Eating Well in Wai‘anae

Members of CTAHR teamed up with volunteers from WCCHC, Kamehameha Schools, Sacred Hearts Church, and Hoa Aina O Makaha to do some good on the West side. At ‘Ohana Night at Wai‘anae Elementary, a nutrition outreach event coordinated with Wai‘anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center and Hawaii Foodbank, they were provided over 12,700 pounds of food, including 700 pounds of locally grown produce,to 581 community members in need of sustenance!
